Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayebnia has urged the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) to expand their ties with Iran regarding the financial and banking issues.

Tayebnia said Iran in the post sanctions era expects the IMF and WB to upgrade their ties with the Islamic Republic, IRNA news agency reported on October 12.

He made the remarks following his recent visit to Washington DC where he attended the World Bank Group’s annual meeting.

During the visit, which was launched Oct. 6, Tayebnia held talks with his counterparts from several countries.

The International Monetary Fund hosted the 2016 annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group on October 7-9 in Washington DC.

The Annual and Spring Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group each year bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, civil society and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, jobs and growth, economic development and aid effectiveness.
