Russian President Vladimir Putin may visit Turkey in October 2016, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 28, RIA Novosti reported.

Peskov was commenting on the statement of President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey Rifat Hisarciklioglu, who earlier spoke of the possibility of Putin's visit to Turkey.

“I do not exclude that possibility,” Peskov said. “When all the preparations are finalized we will make the corresponding statement.”

The crisis in relations between Turkey and Russia began after the incident with the downed Russian plane. After the incident, the Russian president signed a decree on measures to ensure national security and launch special economic measures against Turkey.

The August 9 meeting between the Russian and Turkish leaders has moved the Ankara-Moscow ties to a new positive phase and served as a ‘clean slate’ between the two countries.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu earlier said that Ankara would like President Putin to visit Turkey to watch a football match to be held in the province of Antalya; however, Putin did not attend that game.
