Italian authorities say the death toll in an Italian earthquake has risen yet again as bodies continued to be recovered and now stands at 290, the Associated Press reported.

The Civil Protection agency gave the updated figure late Aug. 27 morning just ahead of a state funeral for some of the victims being attended by Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Premier Matteo Renzi.

The worst hit town was Amatrice, which now has 230 confirmed deaths. It is there that the death toll has been rising.

Elsewhere, 11 people were killed in Accumoli comune and 49 in the comune of Arquata del Tronto.

A strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Italy on the night of Aug. 24 near the city of Perugia. Perugia is the capital of Umbria region in central Italy. The earthquake was felt in many Italian cities, including Rome, Florence and Bologna.
