Iran: no plan to buy Russia’s S-400 system

Iran has no plan to buy S-400 air defense system from Russia, the Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said.

Russia offered Iran Antey-2500 and S-400 missile defense systems instead of S-300 system but Tehran rejected that, Dehghan said, Fars news agency reported Aug. 20.

Iran and Russia negotiated at the highest level regarding the S-300 air defense system, Dehghan said.

The issue was pursued by Iran at the level of president and the previous contract was revived, he added.

He further said that the Islamic Republic has canceled out complaint against Russia over the non-delivery of S-300 air defense system as Russia fulfilled its commitments.
