Kazakhstan armed attack: Four killed in Almaty

Three police officers and one civilian were killed in the armed attack in Almaty, the Kazakh Interior Ministry said in a message July 18.

Kazakh media reported about a shooting near the Almaly District Interior Department in the center of Almaty July 18 morning.

“The perpetrator had previously attempted to steal a car belonging to a resident of the city,” the message said. “As a result, the resident was injured and died.”

According to the message, some police officers died in the hospital from gunshot wounds.

There are also some injured among the police officers.

Later the suspect was identified, wounded while resisting the police, and then arrested.

According to the preliminary information, the suspect is a 27 year-old resident of Kyzylorda district, and was previously convicted.

The detainee is also suspected of killing a woman over the weekend.

All police officers were tasked to detain the criminal’s accomplice.
