China to provide technical assistance to Kazakhstan’s military

13 October 2015 [13:30] - TODAY.AZ

Astana and Beijing signed an agreement on provision of free of charge technical assistance to the armed forces of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry said in a message released Oct. 12 that the agreement was signed during a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Defense Minister Imangali Tasmagambetov and China’s Defense Minister Chang Wanquan.

The document stipulates the transfer of bolster-type tractors with trawls and loading-unloading platforms by China to Kazakhstan’s armed forces.

The important aspect of cooperation between the defense ministries of Kazakhstan and China lies in a joint training and experience exchange in capacity building for countering asymmetric threats (training of special forces units), said the message.

Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry said the country is interested in organizing joint activities for training combat swimmers (frogmen), and for special units’ activities in urban areas and in mountainous terrain.

It is also planned to soon hold joint anti-terrorist drills in the territories of China and Kazakhstan.
