Iran to receive 4 batteries of S300 missiles from Russia

18 August 2015 [17:44] - TODAY.AZ

Iran’s Defense Minister Hoseyn Dehqan says Moscow will handover four batteries of S-300 missiles to Iran soon.

“Before, we had asked for three batteries of the S-300 missile and now one more has been added,” Mehr News Agency quoted the Iranian minister as saying August 18.

While speaking at a news conference in Tehran, he added that works are under way to prepare infrastructure for the missiles and Iran will receive it shortly, the report says.

According to the report, Dehqan went on to say the two sides concluded talks and practically there was no obstacle to renew the agreement.

Russia signed the contract in 2007 to sell Iran five S-300 ground-to-air missile systems. The $800-million contract to deliver S-300 air defense missile systems to Iran was cancelled in 2010 by then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, falling in line with the UN sanctions imposed on Iran due to its disputed nuclear program. In turn, Tehran filed a currently-pending $4-billion lawsuit against Russia in Geneva's arbitration court.
