Kazakh company opens new copper, gold, and silver mine in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz Prime Minister Temir Sariyev has attended the unveiling ceremony of the Bozymchak copper, gold, and silver mine by the Kazakhstan's Kazakhmys Gold Kyrgyzstan Company.

"Only few large enterprises have been inaugurated in Kyrgyzstan over the past 25 years. Hundreds of thousands of our citizens are working abroad in search of work. In this period we begin to commission new plants and factories, providing people with jobs," he said.

The prime minister also noted that this year, the Kazakhmys Gold Kyrgyzstan Company, which is engaged in the development of the field, alone will add 200 million soms ($3.185 million) to the state budget.

"Next year, when the enterprise reaches its design capacity, the company will transfer more than 400 million soms ($6.369 million) to the state budget," Sariyev added.

The Kazakhmys Gold Kyrgyzstan Company reported that as of today, over $332 million was invested in the project. The company has provided a total of 950 million soms ($15.127 million) to the state budget between 2007 and 2015.

Kyrgyzstan, with its 3 tons of gold reserves, ranks 86th in the world by volume, according to figures by World Gold Council for the month of May.
