Military plane crashes on hotel in Indonesia

A military transport plane crashed in Medan, the capital of the Indonesian province of North Sumatra, RIA Novosti reported June 30.

Earlier the spokesman of the country’s air forces, Major General Fuad Basya confirmed that there was a crash, involving military transport aircraft Hercules, according to some reports.

The exact death toll is yet unknown. The Indonesian news website Detik quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the plane exploded in the air over the Golden Eleven Hotel and before falling it hit two buildings.

Detik said there is still fire at the crash site; it is being extinguished by dozens of fire trucks. Earlier it was reported that the plane crashed in the town cemetery.

This is the second accident this year involving the US-made aircraft used by the Indonesian air force.

In April, an F-16 fighter caught fire while trying to take off from the military airfield Halim Perdanakusuma in Jakarta.
