Second incident at Iranian refinery in one week, 3 injured

30 April 2015 [12:25] - TODAY.AZ

At least three people were injured in a gas leakage incident in a refinery in Iran’s central city of Arak.

It is the second incident in the sour water unit of Shazand refinery in less than one week.
Three people were poisoned by hydrogen sulfide, and were taken to a local hospital, Fars news agency reported April 30.

On April 27, in a similar incident seven people were injured, the condition of three of them remains serious.

It should be noted that the Shazand refinery has experienced various incidents in recent months.

Last November two people were severely injured in a fire that occurred at the Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) unit of the refinery.

The incident occurred due to leaking of the oil products in the discharge point of the refinery’s main tower.

The refinery’s RFCC unit went offline several times due to technical problems last year.
During the downtime, the refinery’s Euro 4 gasoline production was decreased by 8-9 million liters per day and was nearly halved.
