Turkey prepares to celebrate anniversary of Canakkale Battle

Turkey is preparing to celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Canakkale, the Turkish Sabah newspaper reported on April 22.

The preparation for the festivities is underway in almost all cities of the country, including Istanbul. Festivities will be held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Canakkale battle on April 24.

It was reported earlier that a total of 21 presidents will take part in the festive processions.

The Canakkale battle, which took place during the first World War, took lives of over 500,000 people, The Turks lost 57,000 people in the battle. Azerbaijani soldiers also participated in this battle.

The battle of Canakkale is dubbed as a ‘gentlemen’s war’ in Turkey. The country’s officials have repeatedly said that this battle was one of the bloody battles in Turkey’s history, however, the warring sides never forgot about humanity even under the war conditions.

Previously, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan invited his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan to take part on April 24 in the festivities in honor of the 100th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Canakkale.

Turkish president said that this could lead to the start of the dialogue between the two sides. However, Armenian authorities refused to participate.
