Turkey may demand investigation of 1915 events - Moldovan ombudsman

17 April 2015 [12:45] - TODAY.AZ

Turkey may demand the creation of a special international commission to study historical data and give expert opinion on the so-called Armenian genocide or declare its readiness to present evidence in any trial on the issue, ombudsman of Moldova Aurelia Grigoriu told Trend Apr.16, commenting on the resolution of the European Parliament.

She said that Turkey can ignore this decision of the European Parliament the way Armenia constantly does it.

“It will be much better if Turkey initiates to hold a World Turkic Congress and compares the number of the Armenians before and after World War I in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey, and in the result, demand the cancellation of the resolution,” she said.

The adoption of the resolution on the so-called Armenian genocide by the European Parliament is the result of years of Armenian lobby’s work in the European Parliament itself and in each its member country, according to Grigoriu.

Commenting on why Europe doesn’t pay attention to the hot conflicts in the South Caucasus and focuses on the events that took place a century ago, Grigoriu said that the Armenian side constantly draws attention to the theme of "Armenian genocide".

“In order to draw attention to the conflicts in the South Caucasus, it is necessary to seriously work on it every day,” she said. “I have repeatedly said that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was learned from Armenian sources in Europe and many countries.”

If you search for the word “genocide” on the Internet, you will see that the first several pages contain information about the mythical “Armenian genocide” and only below these pages there will appear links to the genocide of Azerbaijanis, Jews, said Grigoriu.

She added that organized and purposeful work should be carried out in this issue.

The resolution said that Armenia and Turkey should use the 100th anniversary of the “Armenian genocide” to restore the diplomatic relations, open borders and pave the way for economic integration.

Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out ”genocide” against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. Turkey in turn has always denied "the genocide" took place. While strengthening the efforts to promote the "genocide" in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.
