Ashgabat, Seoul to develop metallurgy in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat and Seoul signed a package of intergovernmental documents during President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov’s visit to South Korea on April 11-14, the government of Turkmenistan said April 14.

A memorandum of understanding for the development of new projects in Turkmenistan’s metallurgical industry is among these documents.

This memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Industry of Turkmenistan and Daewoo company.

Moreover, the memorandum of understanding between the State Bank for Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan and Export-Import Bank of the Republic of Korea, the agreement on scientific and technological cooperation, the convention for the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of income tax evasion were signed.

 The memorandum of understanding between the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Korean Friendship Association with the Central Asian countries; the memorandum of understanding on scientific and technological cooperation between the Institute of Solar Energy of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the corporation SN Engineering; the memorandum of understanding between the ministry of textile industry of Turkmenistan and the ministry of trade, industry and energy of the Republic of Korea on cooperation in the field of textile technologies and others were also included in the regulatory and legal framework of relations between the two countries.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and South Korean President Park Geun-hye have signed the joint statement.

The state news agency Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary said that strategic vectors of development and the actual content of interstate relations have been identified at the previous summit last summer, when South Korean President Park Geun-hye was in Ashgabat on a state visit.

The national TV channel Altyn Asyr said that participation of well-known Korean companies in the implementation of major infrastructure projects is the evidence of interest on the part of the South Korean partners to expand their presence on the Turkmen market.

Turkmen-Korean business forum organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Korea International Trade Association was held in Ashgabat March 19, 2015.

Consortium of Hundai and LG actively operates on the Turkmen market.
