Recently strained political hassle in Armenia picks up new pace after an opposition party ardently called for an early presidential and parliamentary election in the country.

"President and parliament should resign for the sake of Armenia's future. We need earlier presidential and parliamentary polls," Raffi Hovannisyan, Head of oppositional Heritage party, in Yerevan on Feb. 18.

Recalling the falsified presidential elections that held two years ago, Hovannisyan described the period since the elections as a real loss for Armenia.

"Armenia is now isolated from the international arena, loses soldiers everyday, its economy is lagging, as well as emigration is gaining a momentum, and human rights are trampled," he added.

Hovannisyan believes that the only way to solve these problems is a change of power.

"Yes, the struggle is ongoing and we have repeatedly stated and keep stating that Armenia can overcome the deepening crisis only by means of pan-national consolidation. We need to create more and more new centers of fighting and resistance cells rejecting anti-state agreements and anti-constitutional national laws. It is time to shift from the grief and prayer to actually carving a future," he said. "Parliament should be dismissed and the president should step down, and earlier elections should be arranged."

"Serzh Sargsyan come out! If you want to examine Gagik Tsarukyan, Levon Ter-Petrosyan and me, you'd better start first with the families of yours, prime minister, police chief and others," Hovannisyan challenged the president.

A massive protest march of the opposition is expected in Yerevan on February 20. Hovannisyan said he would join the march in the Liberty Square, notwithstanding the possible absence of his partners in opposition troika.

A recently started "tongue fu" between President Sargsyan and opposition leader Tsarukyan has mudded the political water in Armenia. The president has launched a severe attack on Tsarukyan, giving him the boot from the country's Security Council.

Opposition foregoer and popular businessman Tsarukyan, in turn, promised to unite the nation against the government. Even former President Robert Kocharyan has come into play with his apparent support to Tsarukyan.

But, the two fighting political figures sat around the negotiation table on February 17 mediated by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation.

Armen Rustamyan, head of the ARF parliamentary faction, said the ice would probably melt down following the meeting.

After the sitting with Sargsyan, Tsarukyan nicknamed Dodi Gogo emerged to be calm than his previous manners, and said the standoff with the government is not the way Armenia should go. His words are interpreted as a compromise not to keep on fighting against the regime.
