Georgia sees downward trend in population growth

Downward trend in population growth is being observed in Georgia, the country’s Population Census and Demography Service said.

The final results of the latest population census will become known after a year and a half, Paata Shavishvili, head of the Population Census and Demography Service said in his interview with Georgian Kviris palette newspaper.

He added that the preliminary data will be known by April 2015.

Shavishvili said many experts, including the UN representatives state that Georgia’s population is ageing.

“The results of the census will show how real this threat is."
