Ukraine receives largest humanitarian aid from Georgia

Georgia has provided the largest funding of $316,000 for Ukraine to meet the medication of the most vulnerable people suffering from the ongoing skirmishes in Eastern Ukraine over the last two months, said Georgian-cum Alexander Kvitashvili, Ukraine's newly appointed Healthcare Minister, who hold the same office in Georgia for two years.

Kvitashvili said the main financial aid for medication came from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Georgian government, the UN Office in Ukraine and the local businesses.

Ukraine has received more than $2.5 million in humanitarian aid since July 2014. Continuing fighting in Ukraine is taking more civilian lives and leading to further forced displacement of the population.

Kvitashvili noted that Georgia’s humanitarian aid consisted of medications for treating diabetes, vaccines for children and essential first aid equipment.

Georgia has offered Ukraine a significant humanitarian support, valued at more than $540,000 this September.
