The Armenian government is going to see a new wave of protests as a large-scale anti-government national movement is reportedly going to gain momentum in January in 2015.

Local media reports Gagik Tsarukyan, Head of the oppositional Prosperous Armenia Party, will lead the movement and intends to strongly stir up a massive anti-government rally.

Tsarkuyan plans to organize a large meeting to be attended by all social bodies to discuss further anti-government plans and activities.

According to the Hraparak newspaper, Manvel Egizaryan, an oppositional figure, said the first rally of the large-scale national movement would be held on January 20.

Political and economic crisis in Armenia has led to deep social problems in the country inflicting hard blows particularly on the nation. Aram Karapetyan, Head of the liberal New Times party, said a new system may be formed in Armenia.

"There is a threat of social riot in Armenia. Systematic political changes could be inevitable due to the worsening social conditions. This hints to the necessity of a system change through riots," Karapetyan said.

He added that expectancy of riots will rise, if the authorities continue to ignore the crisis.

Yerevan has witnessed consecutive gatherings of tens of thousands of people in September and October when the angry protesters demanded a change of state power in the country and chanted anti-regime slogans.

The government's indifference to human rights violations, monopolistic rule of the domestic economy, as well as huge social gap and gender inequality were among the main driving factors behind the anti-government rallies.

Meanwhile, the civil initiatives and citizens in Armenia have jointly delivered an open letter to Traian Hristea, Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, revealing the gross human rights violations particularly by the police chief and his deputy. They also called on the EU to stop providing financial aids to Armenia to develop democratic institutions.

The civil initiative We Pay 100 Drams, journalistic club Asbarez, social organizations Art Laboratory, Sociscope, Environmental Right and more than 120 citizens have put their sign under the open letter.
