Georgian General Attorney's Office raised new accusation against ex- president Mikheil Saakashvili and former interior minister Vano Merabishvili.

The Office reported that new charge is linked to the beating of the Member of Parliament Valery Gelashvili in July, 2005.

The office noted that the aggravation of the accusations against Saakashvili was due to new facts revealed during the investigation process.

Saakahsvili and Merabishvili have earlier been accused of a violent abuse of official powers. Now, the charges against Georgia's former statesmen were toughened with the new accusation that involves intentional infliction of serious bodily injury.

Saakashvili left the country after his successor Giorgi Margvelashvili took oath of office, in November, 2013. He was announced wanted within Georgia's territory based on the blaming for the embezzlement of state funds, as well as for the dispersal of the massive rallies in the country.
