02 October 2014 [12:32] - TODAY.AZ
Iran has unveiled a new home-made rocket launcher named “Falagh” and a new tactical heavy vehicle dubbed "Zafar", during a ceremony attended by Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan, the Islamic republic’s defense minister.

Dehghan said on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony that the Falagh launcher is designed for launching Falagh-1 (240 mm) and Falagh-2 (333 mm) rockets, and is one of the most powerful land weapons, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported Oct. 2.

The surface-to-surface Falagh launcher is capable of destroying targets within a range of 10 kilometers, he added.

The minister went on to note that the portable launcher has short deploy and launch time, and is highly mobile.

While commenting on the heavy vehicle Zafar, Dehghan said that the vehicle could carry all types of launchers, missiles, rockets and command posts.

The vehicle can move smoothly in impassable areas and is capable of carrying 24 metric tons of cargo within a range of 800 kilometers, he underlined.

Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes.
