Iran’s famous Islamic scholar urges Muslims to fight against ISIL

23 June 2014 [15:13] - TODAY.AZ
Ayatollah Nasir Makarim Shirazi, a famous Iranian mujtahid (Islamic scholar) made a statement calling on Muslims to fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), ISNA news agency reported on June 23.

"The fight against the terrorist group ISIL in Iraq, the protection of Iraq's territorial integrity, and especially the protection of sacred places, is as important for all Muslims and the Ahl al-Bayt (the family of the Islamic prophet Muhammad) supporters as a jihad in the way of Allah," according to Shirazi's statement.

In his statement, Shirazi also said that ISIL is being supported by some Arab countries, U.S. and Israel.

"They want to cause disagreements among Shias and Sunnis, Kurds and Arabs, but over two million people has enrolled to help the Iraqi army following a jihad call from the mujtahids of the Najaf religious and scientific gymnasium," he said.

"I believe that the creation of an army by the people along with the Iraqi armed forces is a good deed for the further protection of the country's sovereignty. Islam and Ahl al-Bayt supporters in all countries should be ready, and join the Iraqi government if there is such a need and desire by the Iraqi government."
