Erdogan summons extraordinary meeting on Syria’s situation

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is holding an extraordinary meeting on the situation in Syria and increased tension on the Syrian-Turkish border, Anadolu agency said today.

According to the report, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay, Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin, Interior Minister Muammer Guler, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Minister of Defense Ismet Yilmaz, head of the General Staff Necdet Ozer and other officials of the country attended the meeting.

Earlier, the Turkish Armed Forces stressed that Turkey is ready at any time to respond to any and all attacks or provocations from Syria.

On July 18, there were fierce clashes on the Turkish-Syrian border between the Syrian wing of the PKK terrorist organization and militants of "Jabhat Al-Nusra" extremist organization.
Clashes between government forces and armed the opposition have been ongoing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict exceeds 100,000 people. Syrian authorities say that they are combating very well-armed militants.
