Turkish media claims EU minister to be Istanbul mayor

Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagis may become the new mayor of Istanbul, Sabah newspaper reported on Tuesday.

According to the information, during a meeting with the members of Turkish Parliament on the occasion of Iftar (breaking fast) Bagis said that perhaps it is the last Ramadan as a Minister for EU Affairs.

This statement was met in different ways, arising questions on his near appointment as a mayor of Istanbul. So, answering the question whether he would agree to become the mayor of Istanbul, Bagis said that he is ready to take any position proposed by the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
