18 PKK militants killed in Turkey

During a special operation launched by the Turkish security forces in the province of Osmaniye in Turkey, 18 militants belonging to the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have been killed, the TRT Haber Channel said on Wednesday.

According to information, five PKK militants were also detained. An anti-terrorist operation is underway.

Over the past 10 months, Turkish security forces rendered harmless 716 PKK militants in different parts of the country, including 496 terrorists who were killed, 21 wounded, 44 arrested and 155 surrendered to the authorities.

During the reporting period, the security forces held six large and 19 local operations against militants.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has lasted for over 25 years. The PKK is recognised as a terrorist organisation by both the UN and the EU.
