Georgia will get individual recommendations by NATO

18 May 2012 [08:15] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia will receive a clear signal of recognition of the progress towards integration into the alliance at the Chicago summit, the special representative of NATO for the South Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai, said in an interview with Georgia Public Television.

He stressed that Georgia, along with three other candidates for NATO membership, will receive at the Chicago summit individual recommendations.

"The President of Georgia will participate in all meetings and this is a sign of our attitude to Georgia. This is confirmed by the statement of the secretary general of NATO that Georgia has made progress towards integration into NATO," Appathurai said.

He noted that at the NATO summit it will be especially emphasized that NATO's doors are open and everyone can join the alliance if they meet its standards.

He also spoke about the election situation in Georgia and said that NATO is satisfied that Georgia has created all the conditions for fair and competitive elections. "Georgia is clearly a regional leader in the development of democracy and parliamentary elections will be a test for it, and your president has invited as many observers as possible so that the elections are as transparent as possible, and this is certainly a good step," Appathurai said.
