Azerbaijan, Iran to discuss defense cooperation

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev will visit Iran in early 2012. During his visit he will discuss the Azerbaijani-Iranian military cooperation with his Iranian counterpart Ahmad Vahidi, Iranian IRNA state news agency quotes military attaché of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran Mehman Suleymanov as saying.

"Iran and Azerbaijan's defense ministers meet annually. These meetings are aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries, especially in the defense sphere," Suleymanov said. The Azerbaijani government is interested in developing cooperation with Iran in all spheres, including in the defense sphere. Suleymanov said there is great potential for the development of the Azerbaijani-Iranian relations, and both countries should use these opportunities.
