FM: Azerbaijan’s election to UNSC testifies to active position in int'l affairs

Five countries' election to the Security Council testifies to their active role in international affairs and high prestige among the UN member states, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The elections of five non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013 were completed on Oct. 24 as part of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly. These countries are Azerbaijan, Guatemala, Morocco, Pakistan and Togo, the report said.

"We hope that by participating in the activity of one of the UN principal bodies, these countries will actively contribute to the consolidation of the organization's central role in world affairs, enhance its effectiveness and credibility in the global agenda, as well as search for the countries' collective responses to the challenges and threats on the most wide range of issues," the statement said.
