
The UN mission has resumed activity in Mazar-i-Sharif, the administrative center of Afghanistan’s Balkh province.
Azerbaijani diplomat has been appointed as head of the mission. Stefan de Mistura, special representative of the UN for Afghanistan introduced the new head of the mission to governor of Balkh province Mohammad Nur.
The mission suspended its activity in April after the action was held in Mazar-i-Sharif protesting against the burning of Koran by priest in America. The UN mission was attacked, seven UN workers were beheaded. Head of the mission, Russian diplomat Pavel Yershov survived. But he will not head the mission.
