
The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry’s Penal Service has launched implementing a pardon order signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday.
The order pardoned 70 people sentenced to imprisonment, 10 people sentenced to limitation of freedom, two people sentenced to the punishment as correctional work, six people sentenced to punishment in form of fine.
Upon the Presidential order, the period of limitation of freedom of two people sentenced to limitation of freedom has reduced by half.
The pardoned include minors and women. This is the 49th pardoning decree signed by the president.
Representatives of the Justice Ministry’s Public Committee, leadership of the Penitentiary Service, Ombudsman and a group of media representatives have attended the process of execution of the order.
An Afghanistan citizen was released from the juvenile correctional facility, which the Trend employee visited.
There are 32 under-age prisoners in Azerbaijan today, Deputy Penal Service head Huseyn Alikhanov said. He said this is the smallest figure of the ever recorded.
"Amnesty helps to reduce youth crime and has a positive impact on the education of people, who are prone to crime," Alikhanov said.
Three women were released from Colony No.4.
Speaking at this colony, Alikhanov said recently 20 women prisoners were released in advance upon the court decision. The colony management made mistakes during the release of prisoners. He said these crimes of corruption will be investigated objectively.
Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova appraised the presidential pardon decree. "There is small number of under-age prisoners in Azerbaijan," Suleymanova told journalists. "For instance, they number 1,400 in Ukraine, with 600 girls. This shows that the figure is small in Azerbaijan."
She highly appraised the presidential pardon order.
