PACE vice president on what is alarming in Armenia's stance on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

27 September 2010 [15:55] - TODAY.AZ
"Neither any Armenian group nor other illegal structures in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan can hide those barbaric destructions they have committed in the occupied territories around Nagorno-Karabakh and inside the region,” Samad Seyidov, PACE Vice President, chairman of the international affairs and inter-parliamentary ties committee of the Azerbaijani parliament, said commenting on OSCE assessment mission that will soon visit the territories around Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to a statement, as part of the UN General Assembly session in New York, "the mediators informed the Foreign Ministers of both countries about preparations for the upcoming assessment mission to be carried out in the territories around Nagorno-Karabakh on Oct. 4-14, 2010. Based on their preliminary contacts with UN officials in Geneva and New York, the co-chairs formally invited experts of UN Development Program and the High Commissioner on Refugees to participate in the mission. "

"So, anyway, no matter how long Armenian authorities try to conceal this fact, it will become clear," Seyidov said.

"What is alarming is that Armenia’s stance is not just unconstructive, but also destabilizing and puzzling in terms of willingness to conduct negotiations. It became clear during a recent speech by President Serzh Sargsyan,” the MP added.

“On the backdrop of economic straits and at a time when all the projects that the authorities planned to carry out have failed, they continue to pursue a policy which does not lead anywhere. "

"This is alarming. Once Armenia had some foothold to rely on. But today thanks to the policy pursued by the Azerbaijan government, most of these power centers are already well aware of what is real situation and the consequences this kind of behavior of the Armenian side can have. Armenia continues to be obstinate. And it is already causing concern. So, we may still see new provocations that we frequently see on the contact line, there may be a provocation on international level and other actions," the PACE vice president said.

"As to the upcoming visit of the OSCE assessment mission to the occupied territories, Armenia will not be able to conceal anything if the mission carefully and clearly follows those instructions,” Seyidov stated.
