Italian FM's visit to Azerbaijan postponed

31 August 2010 [11:20] - TODAY.AZ
The Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini's official visit to Azerbaijan, scheduled for Sept. 7, has been postponed to a later date, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Italy Emil Karimov said.

The visit is postponed due to situation that recently emerged in the Italian Parliament.

The Italian ruling party lost its parliamentary majority in late July this year after Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's most senior ally, the President of Italian Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini, 34 MPs and 11 senators left the Prime Minister's ruling People of Freedom party for newly formed "Future and Freedom" group. There may be early parliamentary elections.

Frattini planned to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan on his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov's invitation.
