"Recent visits by Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to Washington and Azerbaijan are very significant in terms of finding ways to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” member of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (Parliament) Tahir Rzayev said.
"Today, the U.S. and several other countries exert pressure on Turkey to ratify the protocols. But despite this, the Turkish government headed by President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu repeatedly declared that border between Armenia and Turkey will not reopen until Azerbaijan’s lands are de-occupied,” the MP said.
"I think Turkey established the right position, because our countries are strategic partners who always supported each other in difficult times. Opening Armenia-Turkey border before Azerbaijan’s occupied territories are liberated will harm interests of Turkey itself. So, I think that Turkey will not succumb to outside pressure and will not take such a step,” the MP added.
"With regard to Azerbaijan's position, we support peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, taking into account the norms and principles of international law. " Rzayev noted.
"With regard to Armenia, it is not an independent state. This is a state governed from outside. President Serzh Sargsyan, as head of state, doesnt have his own point of view or position both in internal and in foreign affairs," he said.
"Therefore, if Sargsyan is ordered to normalize relations with Turkey and withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani territories, he will do it. There is no independent authority in Armenia, and nothing depends on Serzh Sargsyan there,” the MP noted.
