“I believe all statements, demarches, and gestures by Armenia are part of a political game, which has relatively high stakes,” Azerbaijani political expert Rasim Agayev said.

He was commenting on Armenia’s intention to amend country’s legislation which will enable the country to withdraw signatures from international agreements.
“Let's not forget that Armenia is seriously losing information and political struggle. I think, on one hand, these amendments are a kind of attempt to blackmail Turkey and on the other, an attempt to create international public opinion about accuracy and legality of Armenia’s actions,” the political expert said.
“If this law is passed, it will be very dangerous. It will be dangerous not only for its short-term effect designed for the protocols, but also will give a legal basis to Armenia in future international agreements,” he added.
“I believe the international community will not welcome such a situation, in other words, country’s responsibility which gives limited powers to its leaders to sign international treaties. If these amendments are adopted, it would call into question any international action in which Armenia will participate,” the expert noted.
“According to international practice, signatures could be withdrawn, but not after initialing, or approval of the document by parliament. If all this can be undone, then what is the use of signing the document,” he added.
“On one hand, Serzh Sargsyan’s move is a very doubtful which aims to exert pressure on Turkey and put the republic in a unique position in the international system on the other,” the political expert said.
