“Azerbaijan has stated on numerous occasions that it have accepted Madrid principles as a basis for talks,” Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Elkhan Polukhov said commenting on Armenian foreign minister’s statement claiming that Armenia “is unhappy with Madrid proposals."
Armenia is unhappy with the Madrid Principles, Armenian Foreign Minister Minister Edward Nalbandyan stated in country's parliament.
“The Armenian side accepted them only as a basis for further negotiations with Azerbaijan,” he said.
“In any case Azerbaijan's position is based only on national interests which stipulates that Azerbaijan's territorial integrity must be respected and Nagorno-Karabakh may have autonomy only within the Republic of Azerbaijan,” Polukhov said.
