The dynamics of political-military bloc divisions in our conflict-torn region is extremely disturbing, said political scientist Rashad Rzakuliev, commenting on the decision of the Moscow leadership to supply Russian weapons in the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on preferential terms, which also includes Armenia.
"NATO's advancement towards the South Caucasus with the base rate to Georgia and as a consequence, the direct or indirect militarization of Armenia by Russia within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is similar to the culmination of the Cold War times. We need to recognize that the changes that have occurred in a short time in the region's geopolitical architecture and intensified combat of the military and political blocs for the South Caucasus countries will have serious consequences", he said.
According to him, only one of the parties in confrontation might have influence levers in the region.
"And the actions of each of these parties are directed to the full and final eradication of the rival's influence. Against this background, the idea of an early and peaceful settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict could be attributed to the field of science fiction.
However, there is an understanding that a controlling stake of influence on the situation in the South Caucasus region will go only to the geopolitical center, which will be able to link the two states as part of its block. For Russia this is an alliance of Armenia and Azerbaijan, for the United States of America is Union of Georgia and Azerbaijan", underlined R. Rzakuliev.
According to the political scientist, this is, in turn, may help resolve the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"The fight for Azerbaijan might define the outcome of the Karabakh problem. That geo-political center, which will ensure the full restoration of sovereignty of our country in the world-recognized boundaries, will have an exclusive right to influence the entire region. Time will show whether that will be Russia or the United States of America", R. Rzakuliev concluded.
