"Turkey is not the state which takes into consideration the allies or friends.
If relations with Azerbaijan meet national interests of Turkey, it will easily turn their back to "fraternal Baku", professor Ruben Safratyan, head of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Science of Azerbaijan.
He listed an example from lessons of the First World War, when Turkey invaded the Caucasus, despite resistance of its ally Germany.
"The current policy of Turkey in the region is built considering these concepts of "political expediency".
The Caucasus platform stability, like the attempts of Turkey to join the work of the OSCE MG on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, have in fact failed.
Yet Ankara will decide to expand its influence in the Near East and the Caucasus as the hopes for EU membership faint away. The Turkish powers are not striving to join EU: Islamists are concerned with restoration of ties with the army to retain powers, while Europe demands resolution of the Cyprus problem, problems with human rights and religious minorities", said Safrastyan.
He said there is also the Kurdish issue, which Ankara traditionally tries to settle by force, but these attempts will fail.
