President Ilham Aliyev receives Foreign Minister of Serbia [UPDATED/PHOTOS]

On September 1, Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, received Marko Djuric, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Azernews reports.

FM Marko Djuric conveyed greetings from Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? to the head of state.

Wishing success for the snap parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan, Marko Djuric hailed Azerbaijan’s achievements under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership.

The Foreign Minister of Serbia extended congratulations on Azerbaijan hosting COP29 and highlighted that Azerbaijan has established new partnership networks and relationships on the global stage.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked for Aleksandar Vu?i?’s greetings and asked Marko Djuric to pass on his own regards to the President of Serbia.

Fondly recalling his meetings with President Vu?i? in both Azerbaijan and Serbia, the head of state emphasized that his friendship and partnership with the President of Serbia provide a significant impetus to the development of bilateral relations.

Describing Serbia as a friend and strategic partner of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev noted that sincere relations have been established between the two countries and peoples. He highlighted that these bonds are evident in the development of cooperation across all areas. The President emphasized that the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia are crucial not only from the perspective of bilateral relations but also in terms of promoting cooperation between the Balkan and Caucasus regions on a regional level.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan has faced double standards, injustice, and approaches contrary to the norms and principles of international law in the process of ensuring its sovereignty and territorial integrity. “Despite all this, Azerbaijan has successfully ensured its territorial integrity and sovereignty through its own will.”

They expressed satisfaction with the development of cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries. They noted that Serbia is already playing a transit role in the export of Azerbaijan’s energy resources to other European countries, including the Balkan countries. The support both countries provide to each other within international organizations, especially their principled positions on issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty, was reiterated at the meeting.

The discussion included an exchange of views on various areas of cooperation.
