President Ilham Aliyev has said that Turkey and Azerbaijan are contributing to the future development of the region.

He made the remarks while receiving Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on March 5.

“Through joint efforts, Turkey and Azerbaijan are contributing to the future development of our region, ensuring security and well-being of our people,” he said.

The president stressed that Turkish-Azerbaijani fraternal relations will always be of great importance for both countries’ peoples and the region.

“Our relations are so diverse that it will take a long time to list each aspect of these relations. We are literally allies and brothers, and there is no relationship in the world that would be similar to ours. There are no other countries in the world that would be more attached to each other than Turkey and Azerbaijan,” he said.

He noted that in three months, Azerbaijan and Turkey will celebrate the first anniversary of the Shusha Declaration.

“As a matter of fact, Turkish-Azerbaijani relations have always been at the level of alliance, and alliance is in the hearts of our peoples. We simply confirmed this in Shusha last year,” he said.

Aliyev added that during the meeting they will exchange views on the future development of Turkish-Azerbaijani allied relations.

In turn, Cavusoglu underlined that the endorsement of the Shusha Declaration by both national assemblies about a month ago, with a difference of two days, further strengthened the resolve the president expressed.

“The Shusha Declaration – indeed, we are already natural allies anyway – is well worthy of one nation, two states. Mr. President, we have only made it official with your signatures. We are working hard with our brothers to implement the issues reflected in it. Not only foreign ministers but also all our agencies are working, as we must take concrete steps,” he said.

The minister quoted Aliyev’s words and stressed that strengthening the relations between the two countries will be very useful not only for reinforcing the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey but also for the stability and peace in the region.

“For this reason, we will work in trilateral and quadrilateral formats to ensure that the issues contained in the Shusha Declaration are reflected in our relations with the countries of the region,” he said.

He also mentioned that important processes are taking place in the region, and these processes have implications.

“In addition, there are important projects that you will implement, including the Zangazur Corridor. I came to Baku today to provide information about the work we have done on all these issues and to evaluate what further steps we will take together,” he said.
