Religious leaders of Azerbaijan and Georgia to continue joint efforts for establishing peace and stability in region

Religious leaders of Azerbaijan and Georgia will continue joint efforts for establishing peace and stability in Caucasus, developing good relations between the religious congregations, peoples and states, chairman of the Caucasus Moslem Clerical Board (CMCB), sheyh-ul-islam, hadji, Allahshyukyur Pashazade, stated while receiving Iliya II, the Katalikos–Patriarch of all Georgia, in his residence, Trend reports.
«Religious leaders of two countries are unanimous in their opinions on the issue of the territorial integrity of our countries, head of the religious institution of Azerbaijan noted.

Head of Moslems of Caucasus expressed regret on destroying 4 Georgian churches in the past and noted that measures will be taken for their restoration.

Katalikos- Patriarch of all Georgia, Iliya II expressed gratitude on behalf of the Georgian people and the Georgian Orthodox Church to all Azerbaijani people for fraternal attitude and assistance to Georgia. «Our young presidents, Ilham Aliyev and Michail Saakashvili” continue the road, chosen by Georgia and Azerbaijan. President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev made a great impression on me, he is a far-sighted, loyal to his people, to his word, person”, he said.

According to Patriarch, during his meetings, a number of problems, concerning the interests of the Azerbaijani population in Georgia and the Georgian population of Azerbaijan were discussed. Consent on the annual meeting of spiritual leaders of both countries was reached.

In conclusion, chairman of the CMCB, Pashazade and Katalikos -Patriarch of all Gerogia Iliya II, signed a joint declaration in which intentions of religious leaders to continue efforts in the fight for the people’s welfare, restoration of peace and stability in the region are stated.
