Russia has reaffirmed interest in linking its energy system with that of Azerbaijan and Iran.

“We also confirm the interest in continuing to examine the issue of linking the energy systems of Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan, and we consider it reasonable to resume the tripartite working group,” Alexander Novak, Russia’s energy minister, said at the 12th meeting of the Russia-Iran Permanent Trade and Economic Cooperation Commission on November 12.

Novak, who is heading the commission from the Russian side, also noted that Russian companies stand ready to supply agricultural products to Iran.

“We stand for further development of cooperation in agriculture and mutually increasing the supply of agricultural products,” he added. “It is necessary to note the readiness of Russian companies to supply Iran with agricultural products.”

He further added that the two countries are currently working to expand the supply of milk and livestock products.

“The parties are also engaged in establishment of enterprises for development and commercialization of biotechnologies,” Novak stated.

Iran and Russia are at a new stage of development of partnership relations. The trade, economic, humanitarian and political cooperation between Iran and Russia has been developing on the basis of principles of friendship, mutual benefit and on good neighborly relations.

Russia was the 18th major importer of Iranian non-oil goods in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, with imports and exports totaling $296.509 million and $667.18 million of non-oil goods to and from Iran, respectively, according to Iran Customs Administration.

Russian companies have the potential to export machinery, equipment, transport devices, casting products, and wooden products.
