Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov, along with the Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Ismail Alper Joshgun, have visited the airfield where the Turkish and Azerbaijani Air Forces assets participating in the "TurAz Qartali - 2015" joint tactical exercises are located, the Defense Ministry told Trend on September 3.

In his remarks, Hasanov stressed the importance of the drill for the security of both countries, wished success to the participants, and expressed satisfaction with the advanced level of military aviation.

The Turkish Ambassador, in turn, stressed the importance of conducting exercises in Azerbaijan and said that holding such drills has become a tradition.

Later, the minister and the ambassador held a briefing dedicated to the goals of the exercises, as well as the training of the military personnel.

Hasanov also met with flight and maintenance personnel and conducted an inspection of the country’s military aviation.

Later, Azerbaijan’s air assets displayed their military might.

The Azerbaijani and Turkish Armed Forces hold joint tactical exercises entitled "TurAz Qartali -2015" as part of an annual military plan between the two countries.

More than 30 Azerbaijani and Turkish air force aircraft, including the MiQ-29, F-16 fighters jets, Su-25 strike assault, F-4E bomber, C-130 Hercules military transport planes, Mi-35 combat, Mi-17 and Sikorski UH-60 combat transport, Cougar AS532 search and rescue helicopters are involved in the exercises, which will last until September 18.

Baku and Ankara enjoy strategic relations in many fields, including in the military. Military cooperation between these two neighboring nations dates back to 1992 when they signed an agreement on military education. Since then, the Azerbaijani and Turkish governments have been cooperating closely in both defense and security.

In December 2010, both countries signed a range of treaties for providing military assistance should either party be attacked by a third party.

Based on the numerous agreements on joint military exercises as part of bilateral progressive efforts towards military cooperation, the Azerbaijani and Turkish Armed Forces have held regular drills featuring various tactical and combat tasks so far.
