Armenian army faces serious losses in wake of recent skirmishes

The recent armed skirmish along the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian armies resulted in murder of five Armenian servicemen and injuries of other ten, the Defense Ministry reported.

Azerbaijani armed forces' fitting rebuff to Armenian troops' incursion in the direction of Azerbaijan's Terter district caused serious manpower loss to the enemy army.

True to its traditional deceptive nature, the Armenian side spread disinformation blaming allegedly the Azerbaijani forces for provocative moves on the contact line.

In response to baseless accusations of Yerevan and Nagorno-Karabakh's puppet regime, the Defense Ministry said Armenia's military and political leadership once again tries to hide its losses from the public.

"In a bid to cover up their losses from public attention, the Armenian military-political leadership has again attempted to cause confusion by releasing information of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces allegedly committing provocation on the battlefront but will disclose genuine information about the killed and wounded in the coming days," the ministry reported.

The ministry added that Azerbaijani armed forces fully control the operational situation along the line of contact without suffering losses, and are ready to foil any provocation attempt of the enemy.

Regular ceasefire violations triggered by the Armenian forces have generated much instability, complicating any hope for a fast and peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Resorting to armed incursions rather than intensifying efforts towards reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh proves Armenia's reluctance to promoting stability in the region.

Azerbaijan's internationally recognized Nagorno-Karabakh territory has become a conflict zone following Armenia's aggression in the early 1990s. As a result of Armenia's armed invasion, 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory fell under Armenia's occupation. Nonetheless, the OSCE has attempted to foster a peaceful resolution to this conflict amid Armenia's persistent derailment on peace talks.
