New candidate for new EU special representative for South Caucasus known

Herbert Salber will replace Philippe Lefort in the post of EU special representative for the South Caucasus.

Lefort's mission ended in early 2014.

Salber's candidacy was nominated by the EU High Commissioner Catherine Ashton and was endorsed by all members of the organization.

Following a senior level career in the German Foreign Service, which included postings in Belgrade, Vienna and Moscow, Ambassador Salber served amongst others as Head of the OSCE Centre in Almaty, Kazakhstan as well as Director of the OSCE's Conflict Prevention Centre.
