Erdogan: Ilham Aliyev's visit to Turkey was productive

15 November 2013 [16:17] - TODAY.AZ
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has hailed the Azerbaijani President`s recent visit to Ankara as productive.

In an interview with Mikhail Gusman, first deputy director general of the Russian news agency ITAR-TASS, the Turkish Premier said: “Ilham Aliyev’s visits have already become a tradition for us. We also make our first foreign visits to Azerbaijan following elections. They do the same thing. The recent two-day visit of Ilham Aliyev was held in a truly candid and sincere atmosphere. It was very productive.”

He said that Turkey has High-Level Cooperation Council with both Russia and Azerbaijan. “We have signed a great number of bilateral agreements in military, political, economic fields and in the field of trade and culture.”

“I know that the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are developing in a positive manner. In this respect, there is one subject that is of great importance for me – it is the work of the Minsk Group, co-chaired by Russia, the U.S. and France.”

“These countries must fulfil their commitments related to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh problem. If the conflict is resolved, the result will be beneficial for both Azerbaijan and Armenia. Neighbouring countries as Turkey, Russia and Iran will also be winners.”

In response to Gusman`s “But you haven’t named several other countries” remark, the Turkish Prime Minister added: “Yes, add Afghanistan. All these countries will win from this.”
