Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva have today attended the opening of the new building of Air Traffic Control Center of Azeraeronavigation Air Traffic Department of Azerbaijan Airlines. The Head of State cut the ribbon symbolizing the official inauguration of the facility.
Azeraeronavigation Air Traffic Department is operationally responsible for the provision of air traffic services in the airspace of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in all airports across the country.
The Department was set up in 1996 in compliance with requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It received an ISO certificate from DQS, German Registrar for Management Systems.
In 2012, Azeraeronavigation Air Traffic Department served 130,000 aircrafts, with 80,000 of them having used Azerbaijan`s airspace as a transit route.
The number of airlines operating flights from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport is growing.
The new building of Air Traffic Control Center will strengthen the country`s capabilities to tackle the growing number of flights.
The President and his spouse were told that the Center occupied an area of a total of 5,000 square meters. The building is 65m in height. The first floor of the Center features the administrative office, a virtual museum, Aviation Meteorological and Aeronavigation information centers, specially-equipped rooms for holding trainings, conference halls, a canteen, server and communications centers, and technical rooms.
There are the Operation Hall of the Air Traffic Control Centre and Dispatcher`s Control Department on the second floor of the building.
