Azerbaijan has really created an excellent legal environment for holding absolutely democratic, fair and transparent elections, First Deputy Speaker of the Milli Mejlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan Ziyafet Asgarov told jounralists on Thursday.
Additional air time has been allocated for presidential candidates on the Public Television, Asgarov said.
"We look forward to their speeches about their platforms, programs, to hear that something offered by them differs from the authorities' plans. Unfortunately, we do not see this and instead we observe only scandals, groundless slander and insults," First Deputy-Speaker said.
This is undesirable, as the candidate must explain his program to the voters, Asgarov said.
"I regret that we have not managed to see this yet. All state bodies involved in the electoral process today, that is, the bodies of Executive power, law enforcement bodies, the Central Election Commission are operating properly," Asgarov said.
He also commented on the speech of the presidential candidate Jamil Hasanli during the TV debates.
"The candidate bringing with him some documents on the air, talks about groundless articles published in newspapers in several foreign countries. The documents published in foreign newspapers, in most cases are the games of the Armenian lobby aimed at decreasing Azerbaijan's significance. Presenting as documents the materials of organizations calling themselves international is not a proof," Asgarov said in conclusion.
The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9.
The previous presidential elections were held on October 15 2008.
Azerbaijan holds presidential elections every five years.
