Finland -Azerbaijan coop issues mulled

A delegation of Azerbaijan led by Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugee and IDP Affairs Ali Hasanov met with Speaker of the Estonian Parliament Eero Heinäluoma

The meeting was attended by chief of the Azerbaijani Cabinet`s department for refugees, IDPs and migration problems Gurban Sadigov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Sevinj Hasanova, Director of the IDP Social Development Foundation, MP Ayaz Orujov, MPs Fazil Mustafa, Zahid Oruc, Ceyhun Osmanly.

According to Eero Heinäluoma, during interesting discussions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at the Finland`s parliament he briefed MPs on the major problem facing Azerbaijan.
He expressed hope that Finland-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group would continue its assistance to develop bilateral relations between the two countries. He stressed the importance for reciprocal visits.

Deputy Premier Hasanov underlined the importance of hearings on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the Finnish parliament. Ali Hasanov highlighted the contribution of national leader Heydar Aliyev to economic, cultural, political development of Azerbaijan. He noted the economy of Azerbaijan constitutes 80% of the whole economy of the South Caucasus.

Hasanov pointed out that the development strategy of Azerbaijan until 2020 endorsed by President Ilham Aliyev would allow Azerbaijan to become one of high-income countries.
The Deputy Premier updated the Speaker on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying Armenia continues to disregard four resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding withdrawal of Armenian forces from occupied lands. He expressed hope for the soonest and peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The Azerbaijani official thanked the government of Finland for supporting Azerbaijan in its election as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He invited the Speaker to visit Azerbaijan.

The Speaker expressed hope that relations between the two countries would continue to develop in particular in the trade sector. He expressed assurance that the activity of the interparliamentary friendship group would help develop bilateral ties in all spheres.
