‘Spain attaches great importance to ties with Azerbaijan’

First vice speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Ziyafat Asgarov yesterday met Gonzalo de Benito Secades, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

Asgarov briefed Gonzalo de Benito Secades on the dynamic development of Azerbaijan, investment opportunities in the country, workings and structure of the Milli Majlis.

The first vice speaker said Azerbaijan was interested in cooperation with Spain. “Great opportunities exist for comprehensive development of relationship between the two countries. Reciprocal visits contribute to expansion of relations even more.”

Asgarov also underlined the necessity of opening of Spanish embassy in Baku. For his part, Gonzalo de Benito Secades said he had conducted several fruitful meetings in Azerbaijan during the visit. He said Spain attaches great importance to development of relations with South Caucasus countries, including Azerbaijan. “Dynamically developing Azerbaijan is a very important partner for us and embassy of Spain can open in Baku in the near future.”

Gonzalo de Benito Secades noted severa draft agreements had been worked out on development of Azerbaijan-Spain cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other spheres. “Agreements on cooperation on mutual promotion of investments, air transportation are ready to be signed. These documents will create strong legal basis for all-round cooperation between the two countries.”

The sides also exchanged views on a number of other issues, including the importance of reciprocal visits, joint cooperation on legislation and tourism areas.
