Azerbaijani-Polish relations mulled in Warsaw

A scientific conference entitled “The Azerbaijani-Polish relations: history and contemporaneity” devoted to the 540 years establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Poland was held at the Warsaw University.

The event was organized under support of the Azerbaijani embassy in Poland, Polish International Civil Society Institute and the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SAM).

According to the Azerbaijani embassy to Poland, the event was attended by the polish officials, scientific figures, the tutorial and student staff of the university.

Addressing the event, president of the International Civil Society Institute Mateush Valewski spoke of the goal of the conference, saying “the conference aims to inform the polish community about Azerbaijan, as well as history of Azerbaijan-Polish relations and modern development processes”.

During the event, head of the Polish presidential administration Yatsek Mikhailovsky has read a congratulatory letter to the participants.
Speaking at the event, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Poland Hasan Hasanov said “he has hailed the organization of the conference which is devoted to the Azerbaijani and Polish relations”. The envoy touched upon the 540 years history of Azerbaijan-Poland relations, including invaluable works of the polish people in establishment of the Azerbaijan Peoples republic, in the fields of education, oil industry and construction. He also spoke about Azerbaijan`s achievements gained in late 20 years and bilateral relations established between the two countries.

The head of Foreign Policy Analysis Department of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan Rovshan Ibrahimov and SAM leading research fellow on Economic Analysis and Global Affairs Department Vusal Gasimli have made reports on the themes “Azerbaijan`s role in Central and Eastern European energy security” and “Azerbaijan-Polish economical cooperation” respectively.

Tomasz Orlowski, Head of the Central Asia and South Caucasus Section at the Polish MFA has made a report on “Azerbaijan`s role in the foreign policy of the Polish Republic”.
Other participants of the conference have also made a speech concerning the existing relations between Azerbaijan and Poland.

The speakers noted that history of the Azerbaijani-Polish relations dates back to the 15th century. Poland recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on December 27, 1991, and diplomatic contacts were established between the two countries on February 21, 1992. The Polish embassy was established in Azerbaijan in 2001 and the Azerbaijani embassy in Poland in 2004 respectively.
