27 June 2012 [14:42] - TODAY.AZ
The Third Forum of Azerbaijani-Russian regional cooperation, which opens on June 28, will discuss the continuation of the strategic partnership course between the two countries, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Head Ali Hasanov told Trend on Wednesday.

"The forum is tasked to discuss the continuation of the strategic partnership course between the two countries and relations in all areas in accordance with the policy defined by the Heads of State and to set priorities for future cooperation," Hasanov said. "Seven sections, which will involve senior officials of Russia and Azerbaijan, will discuss political, economic, cultural, social, security issues, and regional aspects of interstate relations, and make important decisions. The forum is expected to issue a joint declaration, while the relevant bodies of both countries are expected to sign agreements."

He said the forum is dedicated to regional cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan.

"Priority areas and cooperation between the two countries are defined by the Heads of State, while such forums target to assess and implement these priorities and to remove some existing problems," Hasanov said.

This will come as the third forum, he noted. "The first one was held three years ago in Baku with the participation of over 100 high-ranking representatives of the Presidential Administration of Russia, the government and parliament of the Russian Federation, including representatives from the regions. The forum discussed statements by the Heads of state to continue the policy of strategic cooperation between the two countries, signed documents and the challenges ahead, and took important decisions on the prospects for cooperation in all spheres," he said.

Last year, the forum was held in Astrakhan. More than 100 Azerbaijani delegates, together with Russian representatives took important decisions on the current level of relations between the two countries and their prospects.

This year the forum will continue its work in Baku in the same direction, Hasanov said.
