British Midland International, and Photoñlub Azerbaijan launch “My Best Travel Picture” competition for photojournalists

British Midland International and Photoclub Azerbaijan launched the “My Best Travel Picture” competition for photojournalists and freelance photographers working with the media. To enter the competition, participants must submit the best picture they took while travelling. The winner of the competition will be awarded a three-day trip to London with bmi during which he/she can photograph take interesting pictures of the UK capital’s best-loved sites.

Commenting on the competition, the Country Sales Manager for BMI in Azerbaijan, Sabina Ismayilova, said, “Just a few days ago, the Azerbaijani media celebrated its 135th anniversary. BMI is privileged to partner with Photo Club in this photo competition initiative for photojournalists and very pleased to be contributing to the celebration of the Azerbaijani media’s anniversary. Good luck to all photojournalists in this competition”.

One of the chairmen of Photoclub Azerbaijan, Sarvan Gadiroff, commented on the photo competition: “We do not want to hold just a next competition; we want to achieve maximum development of photography in Azerbaijani and to take it to the international level.  We want to make the art of photography more popular in our country and to increase the professional level of photographers. We want to open the windows of the photo to the world, to tell about our photographers through photos, and to bring benefits to surrounding people”.

BMI operates daily direct flights from Baku to London Heathrow.


Entry conditions:

The “My Best Travel Picture” competition is open to all photojournalists and freelance photographers working with the media. One participant can submit only one picture. The submitted picture should capture a travel episode within Azerbaijan or abroad.
All submitted pictures will be uploaded on the Photoclub Azerbaijan Facebook fan page.
Entries submitted later than 6.00 pm, August 31, 2010, will not be considered by the jury. The jury will be composed of Photoclub Azerbaijan members and local bmi representatives.

The winner of the competition will be awarded a three-day trip to London with bmi in September 2010.  Flights, airport taxes, visa fees, and accommodation for 2 nights in London will be covered by bmi. However, bmi is not responsible for securing the visa and is will not cover airport transfer fees and per diem spending.

Upon his/her return, the winner will have to submit a photo report about his/her trip London. The publication of the photo reportage needs to be secured by the media outlet the winner works with.

About Photoclub

Photoclub is a union of professional and amateur photographers. The union is open to all people interested in photography. The goal of the union is to promote development of photography in Azerbaijan. The club was created on Facebook in 2008. The founders of Photoclub are Sarvan Qadirov, Tural Salahov, Kamil Ahmadbeyli, and Fatima Ibrahimova. Photoclub conducts workshops, events, trainings for photographers, and organizes photo expositions.
